That faithful day, Chike called me. I told him I was in school. He said he was missing me and wanted us to spend some time together. I assured him I would come when I had gotten home, rested and freshened up. He insisted he wanted to see the way I dressed to school. Mr Romanus. I didn’t have a problem with that at all, so I agreed to go see him from school.
When I got to his studio, he was with his friends. We all exchanged greetings while I walked towards Chike to hug him. I teased him saying the fact that he was missing me had better be paying money. Everyone reacted to it calling me an Igbo woman to the core. We all laughed about it.
He bought lunch for us and he later indicated interest in playing his PS. I didn’t have a problem with that as well. He and his friends set up immediately.
“Nne, come and sit on my leg so I will get inspired to win” he said to me. I stood up smiling and sat on his laps. See me na. In my mind, romance in the air. I didn’t know I was sitting on a time bomb.
I shouldn’t have. I should have said no. I shouldn’t have sat on his laps. I shouldn’t have even gone to that studio.
I was totally enjoying the words they threw at each other, laughing out loud and supporting whoever I deemed fit.
I was enjoying the match when the curtain on the window moved and the next thing I heard was “So this is the whore you’ve been cheating on me with”.
She then pointed at me saying ” You have been sleeping with my man. You have no fear. Go and ask of who I am after I’m done with you”.
Whore. Sleep. Your man.
I didn’t understand what was going on that second. Everyone stood up immediately including Chike as she hit the door loudly asking that it be opened for her. I guess she saw dinner and couldn’t wait to devour. For some very weird reason, I was physically calm but my heart raced like it was competing in the Olympics.
I saw Chike make a call to someone asking that she be taken downstairs. I saw fear all over his face! I saw confusion play it’s best game on him. By this time, I had held my bag and sat at a corner of the studio. Chike left the studio and locked me inside. After a few minutes, his friend came in and ensured that I got to my hostel and entered my room safely.
Yea! That girl was ready to blow off my head because of Chike. He lied to me! That girl was freaking still obsessed with him and he was dating her. For some reason I had no tears in my eyes.
I stayed away from the public eye for about two weeks to avoid stories that touch the heart. Chike came begging asking that we get together. I politely told him that my late grandma was up for grabs. For me, I still enjoyed my status – living and alive.
Months passed! No boyfriend, no drama. Of course, there were those ones we eyed from a distance but really didn’t have the intention to have them. I had to maintain my good girl status. I didn’t want stories.
My village was a 45 minutes drive from my school so it was easy for me to breeze in and out. I enjoyed free food, free food stuff, etc. But on this particular day, my aunt had called me to come home. There was this sense of urgency in her voice. I had to promise to see her during the weekend and in my mind, I just hoped all was well.
The weekend came and I traveled to the villa. What I met there shocked me!
“Somebody tell me what the hell this is about”.
