Aunty Ann called and asked me to come to the village. She said she needed to see me for something important. Once again, I set out on this “somewhat important” journey.
On getting there, I met a very giant gate. It was my first time in her house. As I came in, I had to be verified as a visitor by the army personnel there. My name was on the list so I was escorted in.
I got to the sitting room and was asked to wait for her. Now this sitting room, I think, was used by their ancestors. The major new house was used to house some people I suspected to be very important people. I wasn’t bothered anyway. “Aunty Ann, where you dey o” I thought.
After about 20 minutes, she showed up. We greeted but obviously you’d know she isn’t a close aunt if you were there. She asked about my sister and everyone at home. I assured her they were all fine. She then excused herself again and said she’d return a few minutes.
After some time, her sister (they looked sooooooo alike) came in, greeted me, and then set out too. Then she started asking me questions “What do you study? , What about your sister? Who is the tallest between the two of you?”
I answered all her questions with caution. Her sister later came in (Aunty Ann) saying ‘I thought you were the taller one”
Aha!!!!! Matter miss road. I later got the gist that they were trying to arrange my sister for their brother who got back from South Africa. He needed a Nigerian wife. So I thought ” So, baby man couldn’t come out as a full man to choose his wife? He had to send two grown-up women to do it for him “
I didn’t see the young man before I left. It was a major mix up. They wanted my sister but the lady who referred me wanted me for her nephew. I don turn product wey dem dey refer. Guys, I was on sale via affiliate marketing.
To soothe my heart and compensate me, I was given loads and loads of foodstuff. My people, I was a student and we usually had two issues – money and food. I was given yam, tin and sachet tomatoes, onions, rice, beans, etc.
My heart was just doing me ‘Paulina Paulina’. I travelled back to school a happy girl and didn’t feel bad for the mis-match.
That same day I got to the hostel, I noticed a new guy in my hostel. He wasn’t too tall but was fine from a distance. He was light-skinned. He had a nice smile and ‘fried’ his hair.
After a few days, he talked to me and that took my breath away!
” Hello. My name is Lucky. I’m kinda like new here. I was wondering if I could kinda like be your friend”
“Wait! What?” I thought.
“Oooops! Forgive my manners. Hello, Mr Kinda Like.” I was still thinking!
How can someone be so complicated?
