Can you transition into tech without experience?

Every techie earning big today has asked this question, what is great about this is the million-dollar question is that is surely a start to a great career in tech, isn’t it? The short answer is yes, you can transition into tech without prior experience. In fact, many successful tech big boys and girls started from scratch and worked their way up.

Their background in Yoruba language, Igbo language, banking and finance, theatre art or any other field did not stop them from forging ahead to become respected names in tech. I have observed that most of the speakers that attended the More Techies weekly webinars have backgrounds in biochemistry and that makes me wonder how they transitioned from that to product design, product marketing, and other tech skills out there. But, let’s be real, it’s not going to be easy, and it will take time, effort, and determination.

Think of it this way, would you expect to be able to play in the NBA without ever having picked up a basketball? Of course not, or will Cristiano Ronaldo be the GOAT of football without having to train, learn, and fall in love with the continuous practice?

The same goes for transitioning into tech. You need to invest time and effort into learning the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the tech industry.

Available noncoding courses

Now let’s talk about different courses and available tech skills that you can learn, you know the same way we have different wings in a football team, tech has different roles, skillsets, and responsibilities as well.

While some require you to be able to code, some do not require you to have a  coding skillset. Some of these none coding skills are Product marketing, product management, product design, technical writing, social media management, business analysis etc. so, if you’re looking to transition into tech but have no prior experience, don’t worry! There are plenty of non-coding courses available to help you get started, even more than I have mentioned.

One of the best places to start is with online courses. Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and LinkedIn Learning offer a wide range of tech-related courses that can help you build a strong foundation. But the disadvantage of these learning platforms is that you need to have a chance to interact with your tutor and ask questions about areas that might be clear to you in the videos you get to watch.

This is why it is advisable to learn from platforms like More Techies academies and get the opportunity to get perfect learning from a local instructor that you can easily connect to and after which you will get connected with jobs and internships. These courses are typically self-paced so that you can complete them at your own pace and on your own schedule.

Another option is to attend local workshops or meetups. These are great opportunities to network with like-minded individuals and learn from industry professionals. You may even find a mentor who can guide you through your transition into tech.

What is the easiest way to get into tech?

This is a difficult question to answer as it depends on your individual skills and interests. However, if you’re looking for a place to start, consider learning basic coding skills, such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. These are the building blocks of the web and will give you a solid foundation for further learning. however, some people prefer to get started with the noncoding skills listed earlier.

Do you need a degree before you can transition into tech?

This is another common misconception. I personally laugh anytime people give excise about not having a degree, like! What has that got to do with learning a skill, you do not need that, what it takes is your readiness and determination to learn!

While having a degree in computer science or a related field can certainly be helpful, it is not a requirement to transition into tech. Many successful tech guys have transitioned into the industry without a formal education whatsoever, they did because they can simply communicate, they could read, write, and communicate. That said, What successful techies have in common is a willingness to learn and a drive to succeed.

In fact, many tech companies are now looking for individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, as they bring a fresh perspective and unique skills to the table. So, don’t let a lack of formal education hold you back from pursuing a career in tech.

Conclusion

I hope you find this blog helpful. Transitioning into tech without prior experience is possible. With the right mindset and a willingness to learn, anyone can enter the tech industry. You can also become a tech bro within the next few months if you will simply take structured learning with brands like More Techies.

And remember, even the most successful tech professionals had to start somewhere. So, don’t be intimidated, and go out there and make your mark on the tech world. I am rooting for you!
